A personal introduction

Introduction transcript

Hi, I’m Wes Shields. I’m an operations research analyst, AI strategist, and the founder of Synthminds. I’ve spent two decades leading logistics at scale. Today, I build agentic systems, establish AI governance, and help people put AI to work. This portfolio brings together my open research, public code, and anonymized examples of the systems I’ve delivered. Explore a project, try a small demonstration, and see how I connect strategy to implementation.

01 / About

An operator.
An engineer. A teacher.

Hi, I’m Wes.

Operations research analyst and active-duty Supply Corps officer with twenty years directing supply networks under geopolitical and material constraint across the Pacific theater, the Middle East, Europe, and afloat.

I build the agentic systems alongside the governance: multi-agent orchestration, evaluation harnesses, and fine-tuned models. I work in calibrated probabilities, explicit cause-and-effect chains, and falsifiable thresholds.

“Bridging frontier AI and the decisions that depend on it.”

02 / Skills

The building blocks.

From the model to the operating model. Select a skill to see where it connects to the work.

03 / Selected work

Strategy, meet implementation.

Open research and public code, alongside anonymized delivery patterns. Open a project to explore the decisions behind it.

Client identities and production details are removed. Interactive examples use synthetic data and independently written code.

A reproducible world-trade model connecting network structure, strategic sectors, and explicit probabilistic forecasts.

The operating problem

A trade network can look resilient in aggregate while depending heavily on a few countries and strategic sectors. Leaders need to see the assumptions behind a forecast.

What I built

Built a Python replication package, network analysis pipeline, validation checks, and ten probabilistic forecasts. Published the method, findings, and a correction to the model’s original confidence estimates.

The leadership connection

Decision science, model validation, uncertainty communication, and the willingness to correct an attractive result when the evidence changes.

Evidence & boundaries

Original public research; MIT-licensed replication package. Forecast outcomes remain unresolved. The inline scenario uses synthetic data; it is not a result from the research model.
